Even Taxi Guys are sick of TV

May 1st, 2009 by melisa

When you get into a taxi, you’ll notice right away the screen with NYC gral info displaying. The last time I got in a cab, th eguy asked me if I was watching, ofcourse I said no, because I wasn’t so he said “Im sick of it”, can you please turn it off? yeah! for real! I love NYC people, you can expecting anything! and by saying anything, I mean sometimes you go away with the taxi man asking for a tip.

Times in the internship are getting better.
By the end of the month, you get to know everyone pretty well after working 8 hrs a day, and also you are now used to know what your doing, and how efficient you can be.
Its sad because time to go is coming soon.

Make sure that you do everything you want. Doesn’t matter if its snowing, raining whatever, you gotta go for it and do it. NYC its here, but who knows if you’ll be here again!!

Running from The bookstore,to the Bus!

March 11th, 2009 by melisa

Today is Wednesday in just 2 days, we will be riding the bus to NYC. Is a sad week but yet exciting. Its like your trying to do everything of New Paltz you can’t miss. We just went on a bike ride through the trail-way, it was great! You can’t miss that! Also we went to see the old houses, that are like 400 years old, they are really somethin…but the best part is that I actually enjoyed my time here.

Cliches come around now, when  say time isn’t enough, well yeah! Cliche!, don’t know what happen, we made friends who are staying! They’ll keep going to class while we’ll be working on the internships.

Now that everyone has an internship, we gotta keep ourselves toegther and get ready for the great apple. Im actually gonna miss the cafeteria, the gym, but specially the ducks!!!…………….NOT haha, they are pretty animals, but yet anoying with their noises, they are now coming out, the weather is getting nicer I guess we need to go, as the Ducks come out.

I didn’t bring an umbrella, you must bring one. You must walk around campus, you must go to to Muddy Cup! Get a nice coffy, bring a book.. You must go to the bookstore, it has cool new and used books, of all kinds, is so nice just to get there and be lost for 2 hours, until you pick a book.

All of this places, are worth it and im going to miss them a lot.

See you in the great apple………CLiche!!!!Muddy Cup!vh

Mandatory Mandarin

March 5th, 2009 by melisa

Before coming to New Paltz, I was taking Italian classes, as my third language. Why Italian? Don’t know, sound really beautiful and fun, plus I love Italy, and Italians. But lately many of my friends were taking Mandarin (Chinese), since its supposed to be the third most spoken language in the world, after English and Spanish in a near future.
Well let me tell you those people are not going to have any trouble going around Chinatown.

One of the best deals of coming here, is the whole interview- internship, process. Getting excited and nervous for your next trip to New York, but it is also to find your way in the city, getting to the particular address you have. Well I have to say that ALWAYS ALWAYS bring more than 2, resumes, cover letters, cards, whatver information it is that you are giving away. I just went to the city for a couple of interviews and brought with me 2 resumes (1 for each), buut, in one of them, two people interviewd me, so I had to give my only 2 resumes I brought wih me, silly me! I know! but happens, so I was near Chinatown and I had to run to print one more, for my next interview. Could’nt read anything! All of it was in Chinese! Everything! I went to several places asking for a Internet Café , or something like that! And they were answering me in Chinese, which for me is nothing but weird noises and strange drawings!. This is the moment where I said, I shoul have taken Mandarin instead of Italian. Thank God! There’s Itouch and Tecnhonology! And some people look it up for me!
I got to the Internet Café! But that’s why you should carry several copies of everything , cause you never know whats going to happen!
Good luck with your interviews!

My favorite meal…

February 16th, 2009 by melisa

Hasbrouck. The most repeated word on a daily basis in New Paltz, ever since I got here.

This is the cafeteria. You can go out with an apple in your hands, but not with a piece of bread in your mouth. Come on Taco Tuesday or on Nothing Weekend. This is where I meet my friends to see what happened the night before, or the plans ahead of us. To see the face of everyone, on a different stage of the day is really entertaining! I like to hear everyones news stories, I I understand, cause sometimes they’ll speak in Swedish, by them I mean the Sweedish group of the IIB program.

It’s been a month, we’ve had a snowstorm, rain no parade, and my favorite so far cultural exchanges. To go out there, and see how different and similar people are to you. Why SUNY New Paltz? everyone asks me! …well cause I had no idea, and you know that’s great, cause its more fun at one point. Its great that my school is 10 mins walking distance from a bar that becomes a restaurant during the day!!! What? yeah P&G’s is one of them.  Visits so far- countless, visits to go….not counting.

I sometimes feel like if everyone was part of a movie, cause it looks and feels like it. Those hoolywood chick flick, its real! and I like it. What sorprises me is that so much stuff  is same thinking as the sweedish guys, same thoughts! who would have thought?

So yeah this is us:

Karl Johan- “KJ”- fashion and comedy stands out for him

Marcus- Italy adores his accent, and gotta say I admire him because he just sold his company.

Boudil- Always have something to say.

Cecilia- Like the mom of the group, very mature thoughts.

Anna- Sexy girl, with carisma.

Emma- Mysterious one

Jill- Funny, sarcastic…goofy

Shanet- Looks quiet, but has a lot to say.

Winta- smily, simple and smart girl.

Alejandro- Next President, admirable

Erika- “Kik”, individualistic, loves fashion, smart.

Alexia- Crazy, just a cool mess

Pau- strong ideas.

Paola- “Esta de pelos”, her favorite phrase, funny outgoing, count on her for everything, except for the GYM

Alejandra- everything is funny for her, simple girl next door.

Myself- What else do I have to say?

So you can have an idea of evryone who’s part of the IIB program. We see each other everyday, its become like a , family……NOT, just kidding. It’s great that everyone’s so different that’s something having only 2 different countries in the program (sweeden, mexico).

Next time, we’ll se where this countries are located, because people has asked me their location. Like Cancun was in New Mexico right? I guess this is a learning experience for evryone…
